[EP2] - Jackie Ulmer's Pilot Wife Story

Season #1

I'm Jackie Ulmer, your Co-Captain, on this journey because YOU are ultimately in charge of charting your flight plan, Choosing your destination, knowing how to course correct through turbulence and keeping your passengers (that would be the rest of the family, and your pilot) as safe and as comfortable as possible and taking care of YOU, too.

As they say - please secure your own oxygen mask first, before assisting others, and that is the goal if this podcast - to be your oxygen mask.

A little about me - probably much like you, I wear a lot of different hats. Pilot wife, certainly and also mom, daughter, sister, friend and entrepreneur. Throw in Kids handler and personal uber service; head cook and bottle washer; first aid medic - you name it - we do it all, right?

I was 25 when I married my pilot, and I worked for 10 years in the airline industry, too. Not as a pilot, but I’ve done about everything except fly the airplane. So, I had a knowing already of the fate that awaited me, ha ha!

My foray into the travel world started as a travel agent. One day, the station manager for a local airline took me to lunch and offered me a job at the airline.

The pay was better, as were the hours and it sounded like an adventure, with flight benefits! So, my airline career started with me as a customer service agent in Farmington New Mexico, working for Air Midwest airlines, a small regional airline that flew 17 passenger turbo props.

My mom used to tell people I was like the girl on Wings, the 90s sitcom. And, that’s kinda how small town airports are. There were 4 airlines total and we were a family.

Listen in to hear more about how we met, married and our journey!
