[EP12] Communication Skills With Your Pilot ABCs Series

Season #1

Communication is the cornerstone of success in any relationship and the Pilot and Aviation Lifestyle probably magnifies the need for this. We cover good tips and techniques for communication in today’s show.

I was a terrible communicator in young adulthood and into midlife, honestly. I just buried stuff and ignored it.

With time, frustration and work, here are a few things I learned and share on the podcast.

Communication takes work.Starting those tough conversations takes work.

The power in “I” messages and how you feel vs YOU DID THIS

The danger in the written communication - tone, meaning and context.

Communication and good protocols in the Digital Age.

Nothing worse than a misunderstood text.

A fairly innocent text exchange between two members of the opposite sex…coworkers or good friends, can create a lot of turbulence.

Use good judgment. A passing exchange can wreak havoc for years. Trust is easier to establish in the beginning and much harder to regain. It casts doubt on everything.

Learn my STEBAR Process for managing your mind, your thoughts, feelings and beliefs.

How do you rate your ability to resolve conflict, without just ignoring it or shoving it under the rug.

If you continue in these ways, what do you think your relationship will look like in 6 months? a year? 5. 10? Will it survive?

What are your big goals for your relationship, marriage and future? This matters.
