My Carnivore Diet Journey: How I Found Food Freedom and Healing

A year ago, I committed to Ketovore, then in February, I went all in on  the Carnivore Diet. No slow transition, no “cheat days” — I cut out all oxalates and high-carb foods overnight.

I didn’t do it for weight loss alone. I did it for healing. For freedom. For a chance to live my best life without food controlling me.

Recently, I shared my story with Dave Mac on the No Carb Life YouTube channel, where we talked about oxalates, sugar and other addictions, weight loss, healing chronic disease and issues, family support, and why I believe the meat-based diet is my long-term plan.

Overcoming Oxalates and Food Addiction

Like many, I once believed almonds, dark chocolate, and leafy greens were “health foods.” What I didn’t know was that they’re also high in oxalates, which were wreaking havoc on my body.

Cutting them out wasn't that hard, because my bucket list and end goals are so much more important — and the results were worth it. Along the way, I also broke free from mind drama and ongoing thoughts about food, those quick dopamine hits that only last seconds but leave lasting damage.

My 2-Meal-a-Day Carnivore Routine

I keep things simple and satisfying with two meals a day, in an 8–4pm eating window:

  • Breakfast (my biggest meal): ground beef, bacon, eggs

  • Other staples: shrimp, chicken, sausages, and Ahi tuna

  • Treats: creative carnivore recipes like my carnivore cheesecake

Cooking is still my creative outlet. I prep ahead for early mornings, and I make meals fun by putting variety on my plate.

But here’s the key: I’ve shifted my focus from “food is everything” to “community is everything.” Even if I don’t eat with my family, I sit at the table. The joy is in the connection and conversations, not the carbs.

Family Support on the Carnivore Diet

This isn’t just my journey. My whole family has embraced different versions of animal-based eating:

  • My 92-year-old dad thrives on a meat-based diet, with daily sunshine and movement.

  • My daughter, facing cancer, follows a ketovore approach, cutting sugar because sugar feeds cancer.

  • My son, a U.S. Marine, is committed to carnivore — even helping his 5-year-old daughter adapt.

  • My husband is a steady source of encouragement and loves meat.

This shows me the power of family support in healing.

Why the Carnivore Community Matters

At the Steak & Butter Gang Meetup in Montana, I met others thriving on the Carnivore Diet. Their stories of healing and resilience inspired me deeply.

The carnivore community is generous, supportive, and uplifting — proof that you don’t have to do this alone.

Breaking Free From Food Noise

Before carnivore, my life revolved around eating by the clock: three meals a day, often with snacks in between, dinner as the “main event.”

Now? I eat when I’m hungry. That’s it.

  • No cravings.

  • No constant food noise.

  • No emotional eating.

That’s what I call true food freedom.

And yes — weight loss happens naturally when your body heals.

Tips for Starting the Carnivore Diet

If you’re ready to try carnivore, here are my best tips:

  1. Know your why. What do you most want to heal?

  2. Plan for obstacles. What will tempt you, and how will you handle it?

  3. List your favorite carnivore foods. Stick with what you love.

  4. Give yourself grace. Make a list of 10 non-carnivore favorites — those are your “cheats” in transition.

  5. Clean out the pantry. Remove temptations and set yourself up for success.

Living My Best Life

For me, this isn’t a short-term diet. It’s my long-term way of living.

Instead of chasing the fleeting 20-second dopamine hit from food, I’m inspired by my bucket list: traveling to all 50 states, spending time with my family, and living fully.

And yes — I’ll see you at Meatstock 2026

Final Thoughts

The Carnivore Diet has given me back my health, my energy, and my freedom.

It’s not about restriction — it’s about healing, freedom, and joy.

If you’ve been curious about carnivore, maybe it’s time to ask yourself: What’s my why?
